Ratings, Or, What Are Those Letters in Brackets?
Some notes and helpful links for terms used in my recs.
I’ve been putting ratings for each fic I’ve recommended after a summary or notes on each story in brackets. They are ratings and there a couple of major systems: 1. the one used by Fanfiction.net, explained here, and the one used by MediaMiner.org, explained here (reg NOT necessary) with additional explanations of genres and types of fiction.
Also for other bits: yaoi/yuri definitions are in the links (Wikipedia).
I’ve posted recs for NC-17 fics as a show of good faith. If you are not of legal age to read NC-17 rated stories, please don’t read. This page shows the varying ages of consent for the Americas (North and South America).
Fandoms I Follow
Anime:
Gundam Wing-have seen the show plus Endless Waltz, have horrified my husband by becoming an ardent shipper of Heero/Duo and Trowa/Quatre with a helping of Wufei/Meilan
Fruits Basket-all 26 episodes seen and loved plus 6 volumes so far of the manga in English and have read scanlations(vol. 14-18). AM an ardent Kyo/Tohru shipper, but I also have a OT3-Kyo/Tohru/Yuki. Hatori/Shigure/Ayame/ slashiness and Haru/Rin and Hiro/Kisa (young love!)
InuYasha-gyah-my first taste of fandom. I was mesmerized and lost lots of sleep staying up to watch each new episode on Cartoon Network. InuYasha/Kagome, Miroku/Sango shipper here very canon. I liked the idea of Sesshomaru with Kagura but I love the idea of a grownup!Rin and Sesshomaru together. Started off my collection of wallpapers, fanart, and scans plus AMV’s and the two soundtracks. I have the first season in boxset, plus the first three movies. Am planning on buying the next movie in August plus catching up my boxsets and manga (my daughter thought they were coloring books!)
Escaflowne-loved the movie, need to see the TV series. Van/Hitomi shipper
Ranma ½-have the first 5 volumes of manga and some random episodes-enough to know I like it
Ranma/Akane shipper
Ouran High School Host Club (also known as Ouran Koukou Host Club)-just finished watching all 26 episodes of the anime series (fansubbed by Lunar Anime) and am planning on starting the manga series. Much love and such crack! Tamaki is such a doof, Haruhi is seriously one of the coolest female leads I’ve seen, Kyouya really is the shadow king, Honey is a doll, Mori is really the strong Silent type (and I have such a crush on him it isn’t funny and also? His voice actor made me happy in my pants.) and the twins are made of awesome.
BLEACH-I have been taken over by the awesomeness of BLEACH. I am an Ichigo/Rukia shipper, though not of the rabid type. I am a fangirl of just about all the characters, especially Byakuya, Renji and Kenpachi.
Manga
Magister Sensei Negima-got the first 8 volumes. Absolutely love magical boy/harem type story and think it is very cute.
Chintsubu-Have only found scanlations but I love this! Talking Boy Parts!
Othello-only one volume but I like it-it is about a girl who has a split personality and her trials and tribulations. Cosplay and music feature in the series-only 7 volumes.
Games
Final Fantasy: 7, 8, 9, X, and X-2 plus Advent Children -I love Cloud, Squall, Zidane, Tidus and Yuna. They broke my heart in 7, so I haven’t finished the game, and I really need to get back to 8, but I love Squall/Rinoa and Irvine/Selphie. I’ve also experimented with Squall/Irvine and Squall/Zell and even Squall/Rinoa/Irvine. Now for 9 its Zidane/Garnet, and for X and X-2: Tidus/Yuna.
Kingdom Hearts I and II-Sora/Kairi/Riku friendship/OT3. Also: I love KH-Leon, Xaldin, Demyx, Axel, Xigbar, Goofy and Auron.
Star Ocean 3: Till The End of Time-Albel Nox/Nel Zelpher shipper plus Mirage/Cliff and Fayt/Sophia or Fayt/Maria.
Books:
Harry Potter: The monster of a fandom. I ship Draco/Hermione, Harry/Hermione/Ron, and Remus/Sirius. Yes, I know-not even CLOSE to canon. LOL. Pooh on canon. Well, the only canon ship I ship is Lily/James.
Charles Stross: Awesome SF writer
The Belgariad/Mallorean by David Eddings-willing to re-read any number of times
The Elenium/Tamuli by David Eddings-ditto, though Khalad can get on my nerves sometimes
Redemption of Athalus by David Eddings-My go-to book where if I need something to read I can enjoy re-reading.
The Younger Gods quadrology by David Eddings. I really like the layers of story and wow.
The Black Jewels Trilogy by Anne Bishop-I go back and forth-I like the characters, but I get squicked by various events in the books
The Dark-Hunters/Were-Hunters/Dream-Hunters by Sherrilyn Kenyon-OMG awesome! Gorgeous guys, spunky women, angst, ancient history, meddlesome gods-whoosh! Very re-readable series, and am awaiting the latest books.
Anything by Amanda Quick-I adore the regency romance and historical romance she writes and will hunt up copies of her books in used bookstores to complete my collection. Same goes for Catherine Coulter.
Julian May-Love her Rampart Worlds trilogy and her Metaconcert/Milieu stories, hard to find but worth the hunt.
Ryk E. Spoor’s Digital Knight and whatever else he writes.
Anne McCaffery-Pern (but not the ones she wrote with her son, or her son wrote by himself), the Talents series and her Freedom series.
William Gibson-He was my first SF writer and I’ve tried to read everything he’s written. Awesome stuff.
Temeraire by Naomi Novik-dragons, alt-history and traveling the world-what’s NOT to like?
TV Shows
CSI: Las Vegas and Miami mostly. I adore Sara/Grissom, and Nick, Warrick and Greg are hot, yummy and oh so cute (in that order). I really love how the story lines are going this season in CSI: LV. Miami, I enjoy for the scenery and the snappy one-liners.
Dexter: Interesting: a serial killer working as a crime investigator. I got offtrack with the episodes but hope to catch up this summer.
Buffy/AtS: Only for the eyecandy, I’m afraid. Canon is way too odd, so I’ll play with fanon. Buffy/Spike/Angel OT3
House MD: I came for the Holmes references and stayed for the snark and eyecandy.
Music
I’ve gotten into Jpop/anime/game music lately, mostly InuYasha and Final Fantasy with tracks from other composers mixed in.
