An Increase in Hate Crimes During the Election Season

I’m GLAD We Didn’t Elect His Clone

Last-minute Bush abortion ruling causes furor - International Herald Tribune:

A last-minute Bush administration plan to grant sweeping new protections to health care providers who oppose abortion and other procedures on religious or moral grounds has provoked a torrent of objections, including a strenuous protest from the government agency that enforces job-discrimination laws.

I have no words except this, it is not a doctor’s job to JUDGE a person’s morality when it comes to providing healthcare. Morality is not the concern of doctors and other healthcare workers. I believe strongly in a woman’s right to CHOOSE. Our social welfare system is already straining under the weight of babies and children born to parents who are not prepared emotionally, physically or economically to be parents. I’m also for teaching our children the truth about sex and how to be responsible for keeping yourself healthy and safe, not for only teaching that one shouldn’t have sex at all.  The forbidden always sounds much more fun than waiting.

Six Years Later

Six Years Later, Bin Laden is still out there.

Six Years Later, $450 Billion wasted in Iraq, when our children make do with out dated schools, we drive on unsound bridges and more and more people lose their homes every day. More money was used to find one person, than was used to help an entire geographical area devastated by Katrina.

What has six years brought to us as a nation? Debt, a wasteful war, failing infrastructure, and the mastermind still holed up in a cave somewhere.

Brilliant move, Washington.

A Must Read

This is it.

I’ve been saying this, not as eloquently or not here lately, but yes.  Contempt is serious business and quite frankly I am tired of them spending my tax dollars on stupid penis-waggling fights.

Contempt of Congress and maybe impeachment of both Bush and Cheney.  Pull out of Iraq.  Shut up about Iran.  Concentrate on finding Osama and try him in an international court under the Geneva conventions, you know those pesky little rules that Gitmo and Abu Ghraib ignored.

LiveJournal, Freedom of Speech and Sex

I’ve been watching the commentary and reactions on LiveJournal since in their infinite wisdom bowed to an outside group and deleted groups and journals with incest and related terms in the interests.

I’ve always believed that pedophilia, child porn and other sexual acts with children are not good, but this arbitrary action got fandom journals and groups, rather than the actual perpetrators of sex crimes against children. The majority of those fans write/draw/talk about FICTIONAL characters and they are being punished because one group is afraid that children would be harmed by being exposed to that?

Also, so as to not be forgotten. LJ deleted the comms/journals with no warning whatsoever, not allowing the owners the opportunity to backup, or remove offensive material. That was in the ToS as well, that anybody who was to be banned/suspended for violating the ToS would have the chance to retrieve their content before deletion.

Some links others have gathered for info along with a Boing Boing article and a couple of link collection posts.

I’ll update this post as I collect more links. I’ll do a post later, sharing links I have on Fanlib.com as wells, since this may be mere coincidence that two major threats to fandom on LiveJournal occurred so close to each other.

ETA: I’ve been using Technorati and Google’s Blogsearch to gather links and also to add that LJ’s servers are getting hammered.

The LJ News posting I have linked below was at 76 pages of comments and had been up for 19 hours at the time I looked at it, which was about 2 hours ago.

Bitch Ph.D.: Supreme Court Declares Women Less Intelligent than Legislators

Bitch Ph.D.

If one was conspiracy-minded, one would think that the decision was meant to be covered up by the shooting at Virginia Tech on Monday.

But whatever one’s views on abortion, legislating against a medical procedure commonly used to save lives (the mother) or to safely deliver a already dead or nonviable fetus (not a baby), is shoving one’s beliefs down the throat of America.

Abortion is legal, though in the interest of controlling women’s reproduction, many narrow-minded folks are eroding away at the freedom to choose. If they are so dang worried about unwanted pregnancies, how about going after the men who got the women pregnant in the first place? How about making it easier to obtain Plan B and birth control pills, instead of making women feel like sluts just because they aren’t prepared to have a baby, or was raped?

Also read the links Bitch gathered for information about the so-called “partial birth abortion”.

Halliburton will move HQ to Dubai - Yahoo! News

Link to Halliburton will move HQ to Dubai - Yahoo! News

Saw this Sunday evening but due to technical difficulties couldn’t comment till now.  Keyboard went kaput yesterday, so forgiv any typos as I get used to reconfigured keys.

Anyways, I’m sure 120 degree summer temperatures will feel positively arctic to the Halliburton execs when their time comes

My point being, they should’nt have the contract anymore, as they won’t be an American company once they move their HQ.

I’m sure there has been many, many comments made around the blogospere, so I’ll just say my piece: There are some rather incestous dealings going on in Washington amongst Bush 43’s cronies.

Election 2006 Thoughts

So, I’ve heard Rumsfield resigned, and Gates, former CIA Director under Bush I will be the new Secretary of Defense. I reckon Daddy Dearest is helping GWB out a bit.
81% of Tennesseans approved a constitutional amendment defining marriage. Do you really think allowing gay people to marry which nowadays isn’t a way to ensure children are legitimate and can inherit actually threatens your marriage? Deceit, debt, infidelity and many other things threaten marriage, not gay people, who want to be seen as people just the same as straight people. The only difference? Who they have sex with, which is none of our public business and shouldn’t be a defining characteristic of people-hood, or a requirement to having your basic civil rights recognized.

Corker became a Senator, based on the fact that he put some nasty ads making comments about Ford, Jr’s sexual habits, his family and insinuating racial differences, when he was mayor in Chattanooga, which helped enrich his pockets, and had no problem hiring illegal immigrants to work in his construction projects while promising to kick them all out of the country. Good luck there.

EDIT_TO_ADD

Oh finally-Dems get majority in both houses-51 in the Senate, and 230 in the House with 10 races still being counted. (according to Race Overview by TPMCafe.)

Defense attorneys outraged as terror case switches to fraud

Defense attorneys outraged as terror case switches to fraud

So because one is brown, buying cellphones (admittedly in bulk for a legal purpose) is fraud? Somebody is definitely trying to cover their ass.
