Books Have Turned Her Brain

New Year, New Post

January24

Also, I have noticed that this post marks my 200th post since I began the blog so many years ago. A small sum compared to the years, but I plead being seduced by Livejournal and its clones.

I have been writing again, and have been posting the resultant fic to my creative journal and at FF.net and Archive of Our Own.

Fic
Night {Archive of Our Own, FF.net}
Sand [28 Ratchets] {Archive of Our Own, FF.net}
Conversation [28 Ratchet] {Archive of Our Own, FF.net}

In addition, I am going to try to get off my lazy, distracted aft and post more recs and other things. I have ideas for eassays, I am trying to iron out, and have been catching up on my rather large list of fics to read.

David Eddings Passes

June3

And there shall be no more. David Eddings passed last night and he will be missed. I was a fan of all of his books, and he was one of the writers that inspired me to actually think about writing as a career.

Updates and Musings

May11

I’ve taken down my gallery and changed over to a photoblog. That can be found at Galleria at Ravynstone Abbey. Also embedded my Tumblelog. The page is Abbey Links.

Uploaded a new theme: Notepad Chaos. I really like the design elements and how it all works together. Had to do some fiddling for navigation issues, but I figured it out~

Have fully recovered from the plague, although I still have a slight cough. That should go away soon. End of school is coming up quite rapidly here. Little Miss will be going to third grade in the fall in a new to her school. That will be an adjustment.

Looking into moving out of state for jobs. I think there is a 15% unemployment rate here in my county, so yeah. I can’t transfer till September, so perhaps I can shoot for after Christmas to move at the earliest, preferably next summer. I hate changing schools in the middle of the year.

Spring Flowers and Meanderings

Bearded Iris

Took some pretty pictures of the lavender/blue bearded iris outside, and uploading said pictures plus what ever was lurking on my memory stick while I wait on dishes to air dry so I can do another sinkful plus choke Bloglines with a huge OPML file.

Started back to taking pictures. I need to remember to take my camera with me more often. Also have been working on some fic ideas and even poking at the mythology for a world I’m building for a novel or two.

April8

I have three female cats. the oldest two are sister and will be a year old in late May-June. The tortiseshell is in season. Let us just say there was some interesting noises outside my bedroom door yesterday and today.

In other words lesbian cats.

Oh Dear: Not a Good Idea, or, a Short List of Fandom Gone Bad.

April7

Last week was interesting for fandom, or at least a couple of them.

In Twilight, a writer decided to try to sell her fanfic aka “tribute novel”. That never ends well. [Supplementary Link Collection] {source: JF}

And in Supernatural, there was a wonderful display of entitlement: Somebody called security to have Jensen Ackles’ GIRLFRIEND from the con. Dear lord. the mind is boggled. Also, why would anybody want to give the fic they wrote about a character/person to THAT PERSON?

Anniversary and Reboot

April7

Today is the one year anniversary of ravynstoneabbey.com. I’ve been planning out things I want to do, like more posts and even feature my photographs and other things.

So, this will be the start of a re-booted site. I’m planning a lot of new things, things that fit with how I saw what I was going to do with this place when I first got it.

Hope

January20

I write this at 11:36 AM on January 20th, 2009.  In 24 minutes, Barack Obama will be sworn in as the 44th President of the United States.  I am hopeful that he will make a difference. What a wonderful gift to the world, hope, hope that things will change, will be better.

Updates on a Frosty Morn

December6

Did 14k on NaNo this year, so that’s better than I’ve done since I first started.  Now to actually *finish*.

Currently using Thunderbird and IMAP to move emails to my new main account.  Also trying out the MS Windows Photo Gallery Beta.  It’s pretty and I can tag things and not have fifty million folders to keep photos organized.  So there goes another thing to do, add tags to all my photos.

Using Windows Live Writer to do this post. I’ve always liked it better than the browser based post editors, so I believe I’ll stick with it.
