Michelle Malkin: Insurgents found with Google Earth maps

*snort* I had a nice chuckle out of this. Last I checked, the Internet was freely available and Google is not responsible for who uses the information they’ve collected.

Yes, another link, but this one is interesting.  I’m trying to cut out HFCS and lordy it is everywhere!

I may order my Dr. Pepper from Dublin, TX as they use cane sugar, and I’ve always wondered what it would taste like.

Meta Roundup

In the sidebar, you’ll notice some newish things.  I’ve made pages for my fanfic/fanart recs to hold the links, so as to not clutter up the daily page.

Also have changed to a new theme, as I was getting a headache from the bright green and I really like how the links have a highlight box.

Carseat Wars

So the Internet was lit up after that lovely bit of news about the safety of infant carseats by Consumer Reports. I looked at the video and was amazed at how not even close to a real accident they were. For starters, an infant carseat is usually installed in the back seat, y’know BEHIND the front seats, where they would provide a barrier to the seat flying around. And secondly, they have not posted any details of their testing, for wouldn’t you want to know why the carseat flew off its base?

This blog post, written by someone who has done extensive research (I was pointed to the post by a poster on an email list I read) and I agree with her points re: CR and carseats and how one should do the leg work in making sure your baby will be safe.

A wish list for the new Congress | TPMCafe

Link to A wish list for the new Congress | TPMCafe

I would add to the list: a sane mass-transit plan that would work in rural areas as well as helping people obtain affordable housing.

1. Restore habeas corpus, emphatically endorse the Geneva Conventions, ban secret detention and extraordinary rendition, and shut down Guantanamo and all secret torture sites.

2. Launch immediate hearings on every aspect of the Iraq war, and come up with an intelligent withdrawal plan.

3. Repeal tax cuts for the superwealthy, and close loopholes that allow businesses and wealthy individuals to pretend they are based in the Seychelles, et al.

4. Tie regular increases in the minimum wage to Congress’s salary increases.

5. Investigate, expose, and correct the under-funding and under-enforcement of laws in key agencies responsible for Americans’ safety when eating, at work, in the air, when using prescription meds, when banking, and so on.

6. Launch hearings for mandatory national public preschools, beginning at age three, and for intelligent school schedules. Our post-industrial economy is insanely hobbled by the fact that children are still sent home in time to milk the cows—forcing hundreds of thousands of workers to make rickety arrangements for their care.

7. Start hearings on a national energy independence initiative—a Manhattan or Apollo project for our time—that would look into alternative energy sources and into cleaning up our environment.

Of course, far more is needed, but maybe someone else can ask Santa for an end to the deficit, replenishment of the Social Security fund, ratification of the Kyoto Protocol and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (and other international human rights treaties and instruments, like CEDAW), an end to the military’s ban on lesbians and gay men serving openly, the beginning of a national slavery museum, passage of the Nadler/Leahy Uniting American Families Act that would let lesbians and gay men sponsor foreign-born partners for immigration, an end to the global gag rule, mandatory “greening” of all federal buildings, improved policing of executive pay, an overhaul of the current tangle of equal employment opportunity law (both statutory and case law), and other important stocking stuffers.

Another Fic Rec Dump! (For the Smaller Fandoms)

EDIT:

Checkout my Small Fandoms Page on the sidebar! I’ll be updating that page more often than this one.

This is another recs dump. Basically I’ve emptied my folders holding one to three fics, along with miscellaneous ones I’ve collected. I think I’ll do a bi-weekly schedule for the rest of the folders I have, so the next one should be Tuesday. I’ll update if needed or I get new fics. After I’ve finished, I’m turning the posts into pages. I’ll also start sharing my favorite fanart links with sites and links to artwork (mostly DevART) as well. I’ve collected so much, I should share.

Buffy

Blood and Mistletoe (FF.net link)-Summary: Jilted with mingled feelings for the Slayer post the Will Be Done spell, Spike declares his feud with the Scoobies a Pax Romana for the holidays, and naturally ends up with a handful. [NC-17]

Dancing in the Moonlight (FF.net link) AU with Spike as a Slayer. [R for language and adult situations]

A Day Out-A cloudy day brings out the vamps (and Spike can shop!) [PG]

Three Vital Rules for Staying Stylish, Even (Especially) in a World Overrun by Monsters-Angel the TV Show. Very cute. [G]

Grey Gardens of Shadowed Rapture- Cross over with West Wing [NC-17]

Gardens of Crimson Roses-second in the Garden Club ‘verse [NC-17]

Sang et Ivoire-Diverges after Season 6. Interesting. [NC-17]

As The Romans Did-very interesting storyline set around Angel Season Five, Episode 22, but left unfinished. [T or PG-13]

Card Captor Sakura

Sakura’s Christmas Surprise Very cute story and treats the characters well and believably [T or PG-13]

Shadow of the Dragon Done by the same writer as Sakura’s Christmas Surprise, just as well done. [T or PG-13]

Cowboy Bebop

The Cowboy’s Unofficial Guide to the Open Road – Very interesting story. Road trip! [M] I want to read some more but have nary a clue to start looking!

Crossovers

Robin Hood: A Naughty Swashbuckling Tale – Slayers/Yu Yu Hakusho/Fushigi Yuugi/Ah! My Goddess crossover [NC-17, yaoi] I loved this back in the day.

Disney: Mulan

Deal With It- Shang isn’t stupid. He is perfectly aware that he is attracted to Fa Ping. [PG-13] (ZOMG Slash in a DISNEY movie!) I loved this-funny and really interesting!

Dr. Who

Marked – Ninth Doctor/Jack-Jack is the Doctor’s — he just needs a little reminding every now and then. [NC-17] I really should find some more goodies, especially in LJ land.

Escaflowne

On Wings “A pawn’s place is on the chessboard until it’s captured, or the game is over.” Visions call a reluctant Hitomi to Gaea once more, only to find something drawing former companions back as well: Atlantis calls for its own. [T or PG-13] Not finished but shows great promise. I’ve not had much luck in finding other goodies in Escaflowne fandom.

Forever Knight

A Song for the Road. Nick goes back in time before he was turned. Very well written and it brought back all my love for the TV show. [G]

Good Omens

Human Footnotes – Adventures in the 1920′s, [PG] Really nicely done and makes me hungry for more. I really should pick up the book.

Jak and Daxter

Mechanic Girl-after Jak 2, Written to blend with canon, but prolly AU (or IS IT…). Very twisted!
Keira shaped more of the post-Jak2 world than anyone knew. She shares her terrible secret with Tess via a journal. Fixes annoying canon plothole. [T, or PG-13]

One Piece

Turn On – The things Zoro loves. [PG-13] Very funny and well done!

Sandman

The Visceral Latitudes – written for yuletide by dreaming_trees. I’ve not gotten very much into the Sandman fandom, but will once I read the graphic novel. But this is gorgoeusly written and doesn’t delve too much into canon, so an excellent introduction to the characters.

Slayers

H is for Hentai-the crew get sucked into a game world. Not finished and won’t be as the writer has gone on to concentrate on orginal fiction. Crossover with Ah! My Goddess! [PG-13]

Zelgadis on the Couch- Zel meets the woman of his dreams. The bad news is, she’s Xellos. The good news is, Lina and Amelia were spying on them. [R]

Zelgadis on the Road (sequel to Couch) It’s three days after their arrival in Seyruun, and Zelgadis, Princess Amelia, Lina Inverse and Gourry Gabriev are finally being allowed to visit Dr. Sorez’ tomb [R]

Smallville

Reconcilable Differences- My First dip into the waters of Smallville fandom. I swear DC writers smoke crack. :) [R-NC-17] I should finish reading this.

Spirited Away

Orpheus Descending- Ooh Greek mythology and an older Chihiro with just as much attitude as her younger self. [K or G]

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles

The White Tower- an interesting alternate view of the sotryline. Nicely done by a former writer in the InuYasha fandom.

Weiß Kreuz

Dream of Crimson-AU, violence, character death, supernatural themes [R-NC-17]

West Wing

Hollow Lake State Park-Author’s Note: Just felt like briefly visiting these guys in the wake of the 2006 midterm elections. [G]

Yu Yu Hakusho

A Coin Worth Spending-nicely done OC but incomplete [T]

A Very Traditional Conversation-Kuwabara and Hiei have a man to man discussion regarding Yukina. [T]

Project 365

Will be doing the rest of Project 365 over at my LJ, the Abbey Annex as I get 1GB of space in my scrapbook and as soon as I upgrade my account, I’ll have 2GB, plenty enough for 365 photos.

Posts will be tagged project 365 and will be public, so come on over and browse.  The majority of my posts are public, and the f-locked ones are those that mention my family by name and or may have objectionable content (mostly sexual.  I have no problems with language).
